    NEW LONDON –Water temperatures on the Wolf River hovered just above 50 degrees Fahrenheit on April 15. The Wolf River walleye spawn peaks when water temperatures are between 42 and 50 degrees. Raising water temperatures and descending water levels favored anglers as they reported sizable catches of “back run” walleye this past weekend from New London to Gills landing. Many of the fish caught were fresh out of the marshes and headed back down river to the lakes from where they came.

    NEW LONDON – Sunny skies emerged for the 41st Annual St. Patrick’s Parade in New Dublin. This year’s event saw temperatures hover around the mid-30s’ in the shade, as 117 parade entries rolled through the city’s newly reconstructed downtown. “I thought it was very high quality,” said Melissa Mulroy, a past Irish Rose, who has also emceed the parade since its beginnings. “It was sunny and that was the most important thing. That puts everyone in a good mood.

    NEW DUBLIN – Spirits are bubblin’ in New Dublin once again. As sure as the signs of spring surround us, the Shamrock Club of New Dublin welcomes the start of a weeklong St. Pat’s in New London. The club’s annual Leprechaun Day is Monday, March 17, where they change the signs of the city to New Dublin, officially kicking off the week’s activities leading up to the 41st annual grand parade and Irish Fest Saturday, March 22. Don and Connie Laughlin are this year’s Irish Man and Irish Rose dignitaries.

    Former Clintonville stand out athlete, head coach of New London basketball (1969-1973) and legendary college basketball coach Dick Bennett was keynote speaker at the New London Lions Club 100th anniversary celebration Oct. 2. Bennett was born in Pittsburgh. Pennsylvania. After his family moved, he attended high school in Clintonville, before heading to Ripon College for his bachelor’s degree in education.
