Saskatoon is hosting nearly 500 swimmers from across Canada, the United States and Great Britain for the 2025 Speedo Canadian Masters Swimming Championships at the Shaw Centre. Parts of Saskatchewan continue to deal with dry conditions heading into the long weekend, prompting reminders about wildfire safety and risk. As of Thursday, May 15, 11 wildfires were burning in the province. But the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) says it’s a slight improvement thanks to better conditions this week than last. But while rain is expected in the southeast part of the province later this week, it’s been dry up north.

Monday was the final day of practise without pads at the Saskatchewan Roughriders training camp, and the first look for fans and media at the team’s 2025 first round draft pick, Ali Saad. After playing four years at Bowling Green, Saad was absent from last week to attend San Francisco 49ers mini-camp, so he admits there was some adjustment to the Canadian game. “That was my biggest issue was getting used to that one yard off the ball,” said Saad.

The Saskatchewan Rush had two chances to advance to the NLL final on home field this weekend, but it only took one. “The way we just won that game is pretty surreal, to be honest,” said Rush coach Jimmy Quinlan. A last minute game tying goal from Defensive Player of the Year nominee, Matt Hossack and an overtime goal from Austin Shanks completed the unlikely comeback on Saturday night 10-9 over the Halifax Thunderbirds.

The Saskatchewan Rush are one win away from a trip to the NLL Championship final. After a dominant performance last weekend in game one of the NLL semi-final playoff round against the Halifax Thunderbirds, the Saskatchewan Rush are back in Saskatoon, preparing for the weekend. Led by six goals from Austin Shanks and a nine-point effort from Zach Manns, the Rush took game one by a 16-7 score. “Really, it was probably our complete 60-minute effort to date,” said Frank Scigliano, goaltender.
