Stonehouse councillor Nicholas Housden, 33, has been cleared today (Thursday, December 21) of assaulting a former business partner who was about to evict him from his constituency office in the town's High Street. Mr Housden, a Stroud district and Gloucestershire County councillor, was accused of pushing Mr Gerry McGinty's head back into a wall causing a 3.8cm cut which needed hospital treatment.

A Stonehouse councillor accused of assaulting a business associate during a row in his constituency office last year told a jury today (Wednesday, December 20) that he was only acting in self-defence after he had been hit first. A man knocked out cold during a drunken skirmish in Cheltenham had to be put into an induced coma and spend two months in hospital, a court heard. Darren Sharpe, 52, was so badly injured in the confrontation with 39-year-old Paul Smith that he could have died, Gloucester Crown Court was told. Smith, of Margrett Road, Cheltenham, woke up behind bars this morning after he admitted at court earlier this week (Tuesday October 10) of causing grievous bodily harm to Mr Sharpe on June 16 this year.

A man dissatisfied with a Gloucester mechanic's work on his Audi A3 burst into his workshop 'mob-handed' and punched him in the face, fracturing his cheekbone, a court heard. Callum Cornock, of Manu Marble Way, Tuffley, admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm on mechanic Jon Goodfield. Prosecutor Charlotte Evans told Gloucester Crown Court that Mr Goodfield, who worked at a car workshop in Bonnie's Lane, St Oswald's, had agreed to replace the engine of the 23-year-old’s car.
