The last time I had a long chat with Evan Woodbery about his job, in 2020, he wasn’t having a lot of fun. Woodbery covers the Detroit Tigers for MLive, and that edition of the team was coming off a season where it lost 119 games, worst in Major League Baseball. The roster was weak, and the farm system was in tatters. “I would say 2019 was the absolute low point. When the games don’t mean anything, you’re really struggling – it’s just tough to find stuff to write about,” he said.
