Spotty showers and a couple of storms will quickly subside after sunset. Temperatures overnight settle around 60° with fog rolling in off of Lake Michigan, potentially affecting areas as far west as Freeport and Sterling. As fog burns off in the morning, expect just about a carbon copy of today for tomorrow. Highs get a few degrees warmer with a spotty shower possible in the afternoon. Thursday remains a day to watch with highs in record territory at 90°, high humidity, and a risk of strong storms.

The summer preview continues for the next few days, although it does get a bit more active. There is a slight chance of a spotty sprinkle in the area overnight, but most will stay dry through tomorrow morning. A mild start in the 60s will see temperatures make a run for 80° again in the afternoon. Tuesday afternoon also appears likely to see spotty showers and storms popping up from time to time.

A gorgeous weekend is on the way, perfect for any plans you have made for Mother's Day!Plenty of sunshine blankets the area for the next few days as temperatures make another leap. Highs climb well into the 70s both Saturday and Sunday with some spots making a run for the low 80s, especially on Sunday. The only "fly in the ointment" is another lake-enhanced cold front set to slide through the area on Saturday.

A big warmup is getting underway just in time for the Mother's Day weekend, but we have one more chilly night to contend with first. Frost Advisories have been issued for much of the area from 1-8 a.m. Friday as calm winds, clear skies, and temperatures in the mid 30s are expected to make for frost development. If you have any sensitive plants outside, make sure to cover them up or bring them inside before going to bed.

Cooler air sweeping in behind a cold front this evening and tonight will set up a brief cooldown into Thursday. Aside from a few showers in the Sterling and Dixon areas until sunset this evening, we see dry conditions holding on for quite some time as high pressure dominates our weather until next week. Temperatures tonight will fall well into the 40s for a chilly start to a cooler day on Thursday. Highs will end up a few degrees below average, but still solidly in the 60s under plenty of sunshine.

Update on Monday’s severe weather risk. The risk across northern #ilwx is at a level 3 out of 5, but is conditional on a few factors. A level 4 out of 5 risk, primarily for strong tornadoes and very large hail, is in place for much of #iawx, #wiwx, and #mnwx. https://t.co/NGw1NPTx3W
