ROCKFORD (WREX) — Work on an Illinois Railway line with shut down part of a popular roadway through southern Winnebago County. City of Rockford officials say Baxter Rd. will be closed between Friday Rd. and 11th St. for railroad crossing work from Monday, June 23 through Thursday, June 26. The maintenance work will be done by Illinois Railway. The work schedule will be dependent on the weather conditions. A similar closure is in place on Illinois Rt. 64 in Kings.

KINGS, Ill. (WREX) — A part of a major roadway through Ogle County will be shut down for a few days as work on a railroad crossing gets underway. The Illinois Dept. of Transportation says that Illinois Rt. 64 is scheduled to be closed in Kings starting on Monday, June 23 as work on the railroad crossing through town is set to begin. Illinois Railway will be making needed maintenance to the at-grade crossing. The crossing is located two miles west of Illinois Rt. 251.

WINSLOW, Ill. (WREX) — A major roadway through Stephenson County will see some work done over the summer. The Illinois Department of Transportation says work on the Illinois Rt. 73 bridge over Indian Creek in Winslow is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 23. The project involves repairing the bridge and replacing expansion joints. Temporary signals will be used to guide traffic, but it will be limited to one lane through the work zone. Weather permitting, the work is expected to be done in September.

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. (WREX) — Drivers who find themselves stuck on the side of the road will have another source of support over the sweltering weekend ahead. The Illinois Tollway has started 24-hour Hot Weather Patrols to assist stranded motorists as the first summer heat wave gets underway this weekend. These patrols aim to quickly locate and aid drivers along toll roads, enhancing safety during extreme temperatures.

A few showers are possible early with a severe threat looming this afternoon. Soaking showers and heavy rain-producing thunderstorms will continue through tonight as a low pressure system drifts just to our south and east. The area remains under a 1 out of 5 or marginal risk for this afternoon, but the highest severe weather threat remains closer to Chicago to our east and across central Illinois to our south.
