    DIXON, Ill. (WREX) — A new police chief for the city of Dixon was named Tuesday, just weeks after the position opened up. The Dixon Police Department announced Tuesday that Sergeant Ryan Bivins has been named the department's next chief after what officials say was "an extensive and highly competitive" search. The selection committee was led by Dr. Jon Mandrell, Vice President of Academics and Student Services at Sauk Valley College, who was a former police officer.

    ROCKFORD (WREX) — Work on a major roadway through Rockford and Loves Park is set to snarl traffic starting this week. Two stretches of W. Riverside Blvd. will undergo resurfacing work starting on Thursday, May 29, according to a release from the Rockford Public Works Department. The work will take place in the stretch from Latham St. to N. Rockton Ave. and on another stretch from Packard Pkwy. to N. Central Ave.

    ROCKFORD (WREX) — The Better Business Bureau is warning of a potential rise in scams surrounding fake advertising on cars and other vehicles. According to the BBB, these scams usually revolve around fraudulent offers to wrap someone's car, truck, or boat with advertising for popular brands. Dennis Horton, Senior Director of the BBB's Rockford Regional Office, says scammers are looking to take advantage of those looking for some extra cash over the summer.

    LENA, Ill. (WREX) — A major investment into athletics at a Stephenson County high school is getting underway this week. Lena-Winslow High School will break ground on a new football stadium on Wednesday, marking the start of a more than $3 million investment into athletics at the school and its perennial powerhouse football team.

Abundant sunshine will help temperatures climb to the upper 60s and low 70s this afternoon, a comfortable day for Memorial Day parades and other event throughout the area. Clouds increase in coverage late tonight ahead of more rain on the way this week. Cloudy skies will be here from Tuesday through at least Thursday.
