    The five recipients from across Sligo, Donegal and Roscommon who attend the Diabetes Outpatients Clinic at Sligo University Hospital, all received a 50-year achievement medal. Currently, there are approximately 308,000 people living with diabetes in Ireland.     Sligo suffered an agonising loss when the lead was snatched from their grasp with an 87th minute try from hosts Rainey RFC in the Round 6 All-Ireland League match played at Hatrick Park in Magherafelt on Saturday. Despite the setback of losing Euan Brown and the excellent Louis McVitty through injury, Sligo were 3 points clear when the clock reached 80 minutes, but the County Derry men breached the Sligo defence to take away the vital winning points at the death.

    Sligo’s forward power combined with excellent defensive organisation provided the foundation for a well crafted performance on a day where conditions were challenging due to a swirling wind and heavy drizzling rain. Sligo kicked off playing towards the Knocknarea end. Sligo out scored the visitors by two tries to one, while also picking up 11 points from the tee in an all round performance that will no doubt please coaches Paddy Pearson and Jarlath Naughton.
