This is the young mum who was battered outside school gates by a parent furious that their daughters had fallen out. Mother-of-three Charlene Harkin, 37, was dragged to the ground by her ponytail and repeatedly kicked in the face by Jessica Kitching, 25, during the school run in Lancaster. Kitching was collecting her daughter from school when she set upon Ms Harkin, who was the mother of her daughter's then classmate in September 2023.

A man accused of people smuggling took part in a YouTube video celebrating his prowess at getting illegal immigrants into Britain, a court heard. Amanj Hasan Zada, a 33-year-old Iranian, was shown grinning as supporters praised him as 'a first class smuggler' and 'the best agent'. He was also extolled as 'the leader of the smugglers' by the singers who claim 'Thousands of his enemies are scared of him', a jury heard.

A depraved former children’s hospital night superintendent was today told he faced dying behind bars after being jailed for 25 years for an appalling catalogue of abuse against young boys. Graham Goodchild, now 82, used his position as a senior paediatric nurse at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool in the 1960s and 70s to carry out sex attacks on boys as young as five.

The search for a 14-year-old boy missing since he went for a swim in a tidal river was called off today. The boy had been swimming in the River Mersey with friends but disappeared as the others exited the water at around 7pm last night. The tragedy occurred on Crosby beach near Liverpool within site of the famous 'Iron Men' statues created by sculptor Sir Anthony Gormley. The haunting statues which stare silently out to sea are called Another Place.
