A ten-year-old girl killed by a family pet had a "close, loving relationship" with it, police have said. The girl was bitten by the pet in the family's home in the Malton area and died at the scene, despite help from a member of the public and emergency services. The family of a teenager shot dead on an industrial estate are posting leaflets through 10,000 doors in a bid to find his killer. Ellis Cox, 19, was found with gunshot wounds at about just after 10pm on June 23 this year in the Liver Industrial Estate, in Aintree, Liverpool after a day out with friends in Southport. Moments before he died he had called his mother, Carolyn Cox, to say he was five minutes from home and asking her to "warm his tea".

The parents of young Jay Cartmell have paid tribute to their “perfect little boy” after he was shot dead in a firearms incident. Jay, 8, sustained serious head injuries after being shot on on land near the A66, north of Warcop, Cumbria at about 2.50pm on September 28. Police and paramedics attended the scene, and he was airlifted to hospital, where he later died from injuries to his head and face.

A young bride highlighted in a 1954 Daily Mirror report on teenage elopers has celebrated 70 years of happy marriage. Dorothy, then an 18-year-old hairdresser, and boyfriend Reg, 20, a French polisher, were told by their parents they were too young to marry and that their love would not last. So they skipped off to Scotland, where marriage laws were different, and tied the knot in a quick wedding ceremony in Dumfries.
