My whole life has pretty much been spent outside of city limits. Therefore, I get nervous around large groups of people. It’s not that I don’t like people. Okay, I’ll admit it, I don’t like people. I like a few persons, but when too many persons become a people I tend to find a new campsite. Now don’t go thinking we’re a bunch of toothless losers from Deliverance. I may be losing the fight to gingivitis, but I still have most of my teeth.

As I scribble out this article, it’s 80 degrees outside. Wasn’t the wind chill around like one degree just last week? It’s certainly that time of year when you keep your winter clothes and your summer clothes ready for action. Here in Leakey, the Frio River was literally frozen over eight days ago, and last Saturday, I watched my son and some of his friends swimming in one of the deeper pools near town. They were cold, but they don’t call it the Frio for nothing. It’s always cold.

My early childhood years were spent in a small subdivision just outside of Friendswood, Texas. It was a storybook area to grow up in during a fascinating time for America, although being a kid, I didn’t realize it at the time. Due to its close proximity, virtually every family around me was either directly or indirectly connected to NASA or the wider space program industry.

No, this article isn’t about football. The NFL season is over and although the Eagles were victorious, they beat the Chiefs not the Rams. However, the title is appropriate as you will see. This piece is primarily about sheep. Sheep are always getting a bad rap. Even the Bible makes reference to sheep being on the lower end of scale when it comes to brains. They get lost, they get hung up in fences and thorn bushes ... basically they would all get killed if it weren’t for shepherds.
