The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will hold two public meetings in Dumas on April 7 as part of the agency's ongoing feasibility study of the eventual upgrading of U.S. 87/287 between Dumas and Amarillo to become part of an expanded Interstate 27 stretching from Mexico up through the Panhandle and eventually all the way to Canada, according to Jason Britsch of TxDOT in a press release.

Vehicle accident claims life of Dumas man

Osvaldo Lopez-Boudet, 54, of Dumas died Tuesday morning, September 17, in a motor vehicle accident just north of Dumas on U.S. 287. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Lopez-Boudet was driving a 2004 Honda Civic southbound on U.S. 287 one mile north of the Dumas city limits at approximately 6:52 a.m. when for an unknown reason he veered into the northbound lanes and struck head-on a 2007 Kenworth semi tractor/trailer truck being driven north by Jose Reyes, 40, of Dumas.

Dogie Days parade on Maddox again

This year’s Dogie Days parade will be on South Maddox Avenue again, according to Michael Barr, the head wrangler for Dogie Days of the Dumas Noon Lions Club. Though the Dumas Avenue resurfacing project, which was what initially chased the parade off Dumas Avenue, is over, Barr said the logistics of having it on Maddox Avenue were so much easier and safer than on Dumas Avenue, that it would likely remain on Maddox into the future. This year’s parade gets underway at 11 a. m. on Saturday, June 15.
