The Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC are starting to find their groove in league play, after struggling for much of the first half of the season, but Head Coach Bob Lilley and the players know that it’s a long season ahead. Coming off an excellent performance to dispatch Detroit, 2-0, on Saturday, the Hounds want to keep their momentum going. It’s rare that a match that has a lot of build up and excitement often lives up to the hype. When Pittsburgh Riveters SC and Steel City FC finally met on the pitch, a large crowd congreagated at Founders Field in Cheswick got to see some high-level Women’s soccer being played between two rosters brimming with homegrown, Pittsburgh-area female soccer talent. The Riveters’ stronger start was the difference in the match, as things swumg back and forth, the Riveters made the most of their chances.

When Steel City FC host the Pittsburgh Riveters SC on Wednesday evening at Founders Field (7 p.m. kickoff), both clubs will be showcasing rosters that will include more than four dozen players from the Greater Pittsburgh region. Focusing on Wednesday’s match-up, many players on both rosters are from in and around the Greater Pittsburgh area. Many grew up playing with and against each other — and are mostly still competing at the college level.

The great Sonny Vaccaro could fill a book as long as “War and Peace” with the stories he has to tell. His publisher wanted 300 pages. He talked about what he wrote on MJ, @KingJames, @NCAA, @NBA — and what he couldn’t fit in the book — with @sportingnews. https://t.co/GsYGAYKYqb
