What would be the odds that Barrington's Perry Peterson would win his 1,000th career game in the very town where his love for softball evolved while in high school and where he won his very first game as a softball head coach? And no less in the Mid-Suburban League championship game, an event he has won more than any other coach in the league.

After coming back from an improbable late-game 7-run deficit two weeks ago to edge Prospect, you knew Hersey's softball team didn't want to find itself trailing on Monday with the Mid-Suburban League East Division championship on the line. This time coach Molly Freeman's Huskies broke on top 4-0 after three innings and never looked back in a 6-1 victory for junior pitcher Gabby Felman to win the MSL East crown.

Coming off a three-game losing streak in Mid-Suburban League East play, the Elk Grove softball team found its winning groove on Friday in Mt. Prospect. And the Grenadiers (10-11, 7-7) did it against a Prospect team (21-8, 10-5) that was tied for first in the East. EG senior right-hander Bella Andrade limited host Prospect to 3 hits in 6 innings and shut out the Knights 2-0 in Mt. Prospect. The game was called in the top of the seventh due to adverse weather.

Wheaton North competitors certainly didn’t seem to mind. Falcons senior Emme Smith took top honors in the pole vault (11 feet, 11.75 inches) while teammate Sophia Dalrymple, a sophomore, claimed the title in the long jump with a mark of 5.54 meters.

With first place hanging in the balance of Wednesday's Mid-Suburban West softball game at Barrington's Fields of Dreams, the Class 4A state-ranked Fillies found themselves trailing 3-0 heading into the bottom of the third against Fremd, also state ranked. So what was the mindset for the 16-time MSL champions? "The game means too much to just give up," said Barrington hall of fame coach Perry Peterson.
