    EAST TAWAS – Municipalities in Iosco County are among 302 local entities and tribes to receive nearly $100 million being distributed as part of the Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marijuana Act. A total of 108 cities, 36 villages, 80 townships, 74 counties and four tribes will receive payments from the Marijuana Regulation Fund.

    EAST TAWAS – A Prescott man’s 10-point buck has won the 2024 Iosco County News-Herald and Oscoda Press Big Buck Bonanza contest. Kevin Kinsey, 59, of Prescott, shot a massive 10-point buck, weighing 185 pounds with a 17 -inch antler spread while hunting Nov. 15 in Tawas Township. The buck scored 252 contest points. Points are awarded on total antler points, the antler spread and the weight of the dressed deer. Entries must come from either Iosco, Arenac or Alcona counties.

    EAST TAWAS – The 2024 firearm deer season opens Friday, Nov. 15 and Iosco County’s two newspapers will once again offer their annual Big Buck Bonanza. And the winner of this year’s annual Big Buck Bonanza will once again take home more than bragging rights for the local top buck of 2024 – the lucky hunter will win a Savage Axis II XP rifle with stainless barrel and a 3x9x40 scope, valued at $649, compliments of the Iosco County News-Herald and the Oscoda Press.
