Adult-use marijuana payments being distributed

EAST TAWAS – Municipalities in Iosco County are among 302 local entities and tribes to receive nearly $100 million being distributed as part of the Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marijuana Act. A total of 108 cities, 36 villages, 80 townships, 74 counties and four tribes will receive payments from the Marijuana Regulation Fund.

EAST TAWAS – A Prescott man’s 10-point buck has won the 2024 Iosco County News-Herald and Oscoda Press Big Buck Bonanza contest. Kevin Kinsey, 59, of Prescott, shot a massive 10-point buck, weighing 185 pounds with a 17 -inch antler spread while hunting Nov. 15 in Tawas Township. The buck scored 252 contest points. Points are awarded on total antler points, the antler spread and the weight of the dressed deer. Entries must come from either Iosco, Arenac or Alcona counties.

EAST TAWAS – The 2024 firearm deer season opens Friday, Nov. 15 and Iosco County’s two newspapers will once again offer their annual Big Buck Bonanza. And the winner of this year’s annual Big Buck Bonanza will once again take home more than bragging rights for the local top buck of 2024 – the lucky hunter will win a Savage Axis II XP rifle with stainless barrel and a 3x9x40 scope, valued at $649, compliments of the Iosco County News-Herald and the Oscoda Press.
Iosco elects Trump as next president

TAWAS CITY – Like the majority of Americans, Iosco County elected Donald J. Trump as the 47th President of the United States. Trump, who also served as the county's 45th President, also won in Michigan during the Nov. 5 general election. The vote totals were unofficial as of Wednesday morning. The Michigan tally on Wednesday morning was, with 98 percent of the precincts reporting, Trump had 2,781,075 (49.8%) votes and Harris had 2,690,872 (48.2%) votes.

Unofficial results from Iosco County Aug. 6 primary election

TAWAS CITY – Unofficial results are in from the Aug. 6 primary election in Iosco County. The results become official once certified by the Iosco County Board of Canvassers. Of Iosco County's 24,123 registered voters, just 6,509 people cast ballots, or 26.98 percent.
Summerfest closes 2024 rendition in the Tawases

EAST TAWAS – Tawas Bay Summerfest wrapped its 17th annual run over the weekend. While rain was forecasted for the weekend, the droplets managed to stay away, for the most part, from the festival’s 2024 rendition. “We were blessed,” said Jerry Malone, Summerfest organizer. It was a fun and beautiful weekend. “We had just a couple of sprinkles at Shoreline Park.”The three-day Tawas Bay Summerfest kicked off on Friday, July 12 with events at Tawas City’s Shoreline Park.
