Minnesota is heading into its second archery deer hunting season Saturday, Sept. 14, under a temporary law that allows anyone to use crossbows, but it’s still unclear how the first season went in 2023. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has some data that show crossbow hunters tended to be younger and older than the average archery hunter, likely due to their ease of use and exactly what supporters of crossbows wanted to happen.

McGREGOR, Minn. — The last time bigmouth buffalo fish had a really good reproduction survival year in the Rice River near here, the Japanese and the Nazis were winning World War II, Franklin Roosevelt was president and Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas” was the new No. 1 song in the U.S.It was 1942, and many of those bigmouth buffalo that hatched that year are still going strong in the Rice River system in Aitkin County, where they are now 82 years old.
