    A Cork senator has called for government funding for service dog providers in Ireland to be introduced. Speaking in the Seanad, Cork Fine Gael Senator Eileen Lynch described that service dog providers in Ireland are largely self-funded through fundraising and donations. She added that service dogs are not consistently recognised across disability policy documents and funding models, which she states leaves a critical support unaccounted for.

    The nominees for the 2025 Cork Lord Mayor Community and Voluntary Awards have been announced. The awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday, May 7, at a gala event in the Concert Hall, City Hall, and will be streamed live on Cork City Council’s website, corkcity.ie, and on the council’s YouTube channel. Also taking place on the same evening will be the presentation of the Lord Mayor’s Civic Awards and Culture Award 2025.

    Cork County Council have launched a new five year plan that sets out the vision and strategic goals of council. The Corporate Plan (2025 – 2029) was passed recently by the Council. In the plan there is a focus on community development, housing sustainable economic growth and climate action. The plan was developed following a series of stakeholder and public consultations, surveys and submission invitations. More than 20 workshops were also held throughout the county last year.

    The Cork Summer Show 2025 is now open for applications. Taking place on Saturday June 14 and Sunday June 15 at the Cork Summer Show Showgrounds in Curraheen, applications can be made across over 800 competition classes for what is Munster’s largest and longest-running agricultural showcase. Competition classes from across a wide range of categories include livestock and equestrian events to horticulture, baking, art and traditional craftsmanship.

    A five-year-old boy who was injured by a cow following an incident on a farm at Minane Bridge in Cork currently remains seriously ill in hospital. The boy was taken to Cork University Hospital (CUH) following the incident on Sunday evening. He was assessed at CUH and it is understood then was transferred to a Dublin hospital for treatment. County councillors in the Carrigaline district have told that their thoughts and prayers are with the boy and his family.
