Construction has started on a temporary bus depot in Tivoli as the implementation of the Cork BusConnects will commence in late 2026 or early 2027, but Bus Éireann needs 80 more drivers for phase one, Cork city councillors have been told. Works have begun on a €10m temporary Bus Éireann depot on the former Tata Steel site in the Tivoli Docks. The development, which has an estimated value of €10m, will be used in place of the current bus depot at Capwell.

Three studio, eight one-bed and two two-bed apartments have been granted permission in Blackpool for the sites of two commercial units on Watercourse Road. Permission has been granted to developers Lascara Limited for the change of use of the first floor of Unit 7, The Plaza, from commercial to residential use. It will provide one studio apartment, three one-bed apartments and two two-bed apartments.

A Cork woman has said she has no idea where she will live next month due to issues with Cork City Council’s Government-funded tenant-in-situ scheme, through which the home she had been renting from a private landlord was set to be sold to the council. She told The Echo she fears the property will now be put on the open market. “My notice was up and I had nowhere to go, the council gave the landlord an offer and the house went ‘sale agreed’ in February,” she said.

A Cork teacher has said that religion in primary schools is a human rights issue, as a majority of union members believe faith formation should not take place outside schools. A survey of Irish primary school teachers, by the Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (INTO), found that 57% believe faith should be formed outside of schools. Under 40% of teachers aged under 45 said that faith formation should happen in schools, compared to 60% of teachers over 55.

Locals and business owners in Ballyphehane have raised concerns about a rise in antisocial behaviour in an alcove of an apartment building. The O’Sullivan apartments, which opened last year on Barrack St, feature a covered entryway within an alcove that looks out onto a narrow laneway leading onto Tower St.Locals say this alcove has become a destination for open drug use, with non-residents congregating there.
