Everywhere I go this holiday season, I hear the same refrain: People are desperate for something to inspire them. That’s why I’ve spent the past several weeks with my head in a series of books, all offering insight into the natural world and how to protect it. Here are 20 environmental books published in 2024 for readers of all ages and experience. And it didn’t have anything to do with nuclear power, like Chernobyl or Three Mile Island.

This week "Sunday Supper" presents a double birthday bonanza. Monday is Bruce Springsteen's 75th birthday. He celebrated last Sunday with a full-tilt concert, as usual, at the See.Hear.Now Festival on his old turf in Asbury Park. I'll have a musical tour of some of the cities, including Asbury Park, in the Boss's catalogue. Meanwhile, Saturday was the 90th anniversary of Leonard Cohen's birth.
