    ORIENT - Orient-Macksburg High composition II students agree whole-grade sharing with neighboring Nodaway Valley is the best option for their school’s future as it faces declining enrollment and growing financial strain. The option was explained Tuesday by students Kasyn Shinn, Rogue Paxton and Bridget Bracy in a presentation for the public. Kinsey Eslinger was also part of the research that took months, but was unable to attend the presentation.

    The use of its new water treatment plant highlighted the Southern Iowa Rural Water Association’s annual meeting held Wednesday at Supertel Inn and Conference Center in Creston. Highlighting the meeting was a review of the association’s new water treatment plant east of Creston. Since the plant opened the first of the year, SIRWA has created about 300,000 million gallons of water. The plant produces about 4.3 million gallons a day. Water for the Creston plant comes from Three Mile Lake.

The board was told UnityPoint’s Benjamin Cleveland is a principal/analytical data scientist. Cleveland’s role expanded to include AI Strategist, the first for UnityPoint Health.

    Union County Board of Supervisors have begun discussions with Waste Management over the cost and frequency of emptying the recycling bins in Afton and Creston. Supervisors did not take any action on Monday and are scheduling further discussions with Waste Management. Earlier this year, the county was informed by Waste Management of fee increases to maintain and empty the recycling bins in each town as part of a contract renewal.
