    Two Golden View Classical Academy runners stood out in a crowded field at the 2A track and field state championships this spring, with one even making history with his times. While GVCA’s boys team finished seventh (out of 45 teams) among 2A teams and the girls team finished 19th (of 43), senior Bobby Kiesewetter and sophomore Mehlea Ritschard left with some hardware for the Sentinels, dominating several events to stand tall at the podium.

That’s Jeff Neal. Neal, whose basketball life has taken nearly every form — from coaching high school to playing college basketball at Albion College in Michigan or working as an agent for NBA players — hopes to bring stability and sustained success to the Norseman.

    Dismayed Colorado fans still turn up at Coors Field to support their spiraling Rockies, with yells of “Sell the team!” ringing out behind hot dog bites and swigs of beer. The old adage in baseball is that before the season even begins, you get 40 wins and 40 losses, and what your team does between them will determine the course of the season. But it’s not even June, and the Rockies just lost their 40th game on Tuesday.

    Last fall, Clear Creek High School enjoyed a decorated cross country season. The boys won the Mile High League title for the first time since 2011 and finished third at regionals, while the girls finished fourth. Rebecca McCarthy, the head cross country coach, said then that senior Ocean Caplan-Holdgrafer was on the cusp of making history for the Golddiggers. “He’s our school’s fastest runner since (the early 1990s), and he’s within seconds of breaking the school record,” McCarthy said.

    Evergreen swimmers and divers have emerged as constant titans to be defeated in Class 4A every spring. And again, the titans stood tall after a victorious and historic showing at the 2025 state meet. Carson Harrington, the Cougars’ senior anchor and 4A Diver of the Year from the Colorado High School Coaches Association, was ranked the No. 1 diver in the nation coming into the state meet. He lived up to it. Harrington captured his third consecutive 4A diving title, but this time, he made history.
