That leaves one assistant opening for Odom to fill to reach the NCAA limit of five assistant coaches.

On Tuesday, Aldrich officially joined Odom's staff as the Cavaliers' associate head coach.

Former Virginia men's basketball coach Tony Bennett welcomed new Cavaliers coach Ryan Odom to Charlottesville with a heartfelt note on Wednesday. And yes, it included a mention of the infamous UVa-UMBC game. During the 2018 NCAA Tournament, Odom, then the head coach at UMBC, led the No. 16 seed Retrievers to a shocking 74-54 victory over No. 1 seed Virginia in Charlotte. It was the first time in men's NCAA Tournament history that a No. 16 seed had defeated a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
