    This issue of The Waterways Journal is the last one with my name on the masthead, after 27 years as editor and five years before that as assistant editor. Effective July 1, I am retiring from the job that I’ve held for more than half my life. On August 26, 1991, I walked into the WJ offices in the Security Building in downtown St. Louis to begin my new job as assistant editor.

    • The American Waterways Operators announced that Jill Bessetti has joined the AWO staff as vice president-Southern Region. She began work May 6 after a successful active duty and civilian career with the U.S. Coast Guard, serving most recently as Eighth District towing vessel coordinator. Bessetti attained the rank of commander during her active-duty Coast Guard career, which included experience in New Orleans, Mobile and Philadelphia.

    The Western Dredging Association (WEDA) announced May 3 that Jessica Bridges is the organization’s new executive director. Bridges joins WEDA with more than  20  years of experience in industry advocacy and association management. “I’m delighted to serve the dredging and marine industry as the new executive director of WEDA,” Bridges said. “The level of volunteer commitment to the organization is truly impressive.

    The West Kentucky Regional Riverport Authority is looking for an investor, developer or operator that could help turn its board’s vision of a riverport near the confluence of the Mississippi and Ohio rivers into reality. The board has issued a formal Request for Information (RFI), due on March 29, for anyone who would be interested in filling any of those roles.

    The Memphis Engineer District will host its annual Business Industry Day from 12:30 to 5 p.m. February 20 at the Renasant Convention Center in downtown Memphis, Tenn. Industry Day is a Department of Defense Program Management Office event held to connect contractors with Memphis District representatives.
