Call it the tale of two Parkways - one good news, one not so much. So, let's start with the good, the Parkway North. Since the crack was discovered in the HOV lane pier, closing the HOV lanes, East Street Valley traffic has been a challenge but it's about it change. "Tomorrow morning, we'll be open for morning rush hour," said Lori Musto PennDOT District 11's Assistant Executive for Maintenance. However, according to Musto, not all of the HOV lanes are returning.

PennDOT beginning several projects this week As temperatures continue to increase, so do the traffic projects that happen across our area and you'll have to be ready when you hit the roads in the coming months. Let's begin with the Parkway East where a project will run between Churchill and Monroeville. They'll be working on the supports under several bridges along the route and to do that, they'll have to close the road for 15 minutes at a time.

PennDOT has shut down the HOV lane from the Veterans Bridge onto I-279 in Pittsburgh after discovering a crack in one of the concrete piers that supports the bridge ramp. What was a small crack worth watching during the last inspection became a much bigger issue when a new inspection on Friday prompted immediate concerns. Seeing small cracks near the top of support beams where salt water leaks onto support structures isn't that unusual and usually aren't that serious, but this time it is.

PennDOT's construction season is beginning soon and some disruptions will be in place starting Monday on the Parkway East. This is a continuation of last year's work from Churchill to Monroeville, but this year, there's a major twist. The bridge over Old William Penn Highway is not just getting a facelift, it's going, going gone.
