The Roaring Fork High School girls soccer team picked up a big league win over Basalt ahead of the weekend, and defeated Coal Ridge at home on Tuesday, April 22, to improve their league standings. All of the Rams goals in the 3-0 shutout win over Coal Ridge came in the second half — two from sophomore Riley Bevington and one from senior Erica Crownhart. Assists came from sophomore Olivia Rullett and freshman Helena McCracken.

Roaring Fork High School senior Hank Cerrone admits he’s not a big fan of high school, but an opportunity offered by his school, the Carbondale Fire Department and Colorado Mountain College (CMC), may very well secure a future career for him. “I’m the kind of person who likes to really jump onto things,” said Cerrone, who’s looking to enlist in the U.S. Army as a medic after he graduates next month.

The past week in Roaring Fork High School spring sports was highlighted by a big win for the girls lacrosse team, and a new school record for the girls 4×800 relay team on the track. Starting things off, playing at Battle Mountain on Friday, April 11, the lacrosse team defeated one of the top 4A Mountain East League teams, 16-15. “It was a great victory for us,” head coach Drew Kitchell said.

The weather was dishing up as much competition as the opposing teams for last week’s Trent Goscha Memorial Baseball Tournament in Carbondale. In the end, it was the long-awaited matchup of the host Roaring Fork High School Rams versus neighboring Glenwood Springs for the tournament championship late Saturday afternoon. The Rams prevailed in a hard-fought game, 6-3, for a first-ever home tournament title.

The post-spring break schedule for Roaring Fork High School sports presents its usual mix of wacky weather to contend with, while most teams are still just trying to find themselves. The ladies soccer team made its home field debut on Tuesday, April 1, amid snow squalls and cold temps, emerging with a 2-2 tie against Class 4A Battle Mountain. After a slow start for both teams, the Rams kept pace with the Huskies. Roaring Fork goals came from sophomore Riley Bevington and senior Carley Crownhart.
