A Canadian bat company is scrambling to keep up with a wave of interest after a breakout weekend for baseball’s latest innovation: the torpedo bat. The somewhat unusual-looking bat shifts the barrel’s biggest mass closer to the hitter’s hands. It became an overnight sensation after the New York Yankees launched a jaw-dropping 15 home runs during their opening series against the Milwaukee Brewers. Nine of those bombs came in a single game on Saturday, with five Yankees swinging torpedo bats.

Outside a No Frills in Hamilton, Ont., David Craig packs a few bags of groceries into the back of his car, as he tells CTV News he’s been stockpiling a little more. A city long defined by its steel mills and known as the “city of waterfalls,” Hamilton, Ont., is seeing American politics ripple through its election conversation locally. Move over, Captain America. Canada’s own superhero is enjoying a resurgence in interest, fueled by the trade war and the surge in patriotism. At Toronto’s Comicon this weekend, fans of Captain Canuck have been meeting with Richard Comely, the artist who co-created the maple-leaf-clad character 50 years ago. “It’s nice that it makes people happy, makes them feel something positive about their identity as a Canadian,” said Comely during a break from signing comics.

Thank you Canadian Men’s Health Foundation for asking about my battle with two cancers. It’s been a strange ride - and hope my story will encourage others to go get screened! Had a great chat with my former newsroom colleague Dan Murphy. Podcast available next week.
