Heading into the fourth quarter of Friday night’s game, the Halifax County High School varsity girls basketball team led the Bassett High School Bengals 27-24 and were hoping to end senior night with a win. But things went awry in the fourth quarter when Bassett scored 30 points and held the Comets to just five points to run away with the 54-32 win. Halifax led after the first three quarters, 9-8 after one, 13-11 after two and 27-24 after three quarters of play.

The Halifax County High School girls JV basketball team wrapped up the 2024-25 home slate of games on Friday night with a loss to Bassett 55-37. In the first quarter, the Bengals went on an 8-0 run early in the quarter and had a 12-7 lead heading into the second quarter. A 5-0 run to start the second quarter for Bassett extended their lead to double digits, and that was as close as the Comets would get for the remainder of the game. The Comets trailed 31-20 at halftime.

On Monday night, the Halifax County High School JV boys basketball team continued their successful 2024-25 campaign when they welcomed the Liberty High School Minutemen out of Bedford to Halifax County High School. The Comets put their foot on the gas to start the game and never let up, winning 59-35. They opened the game on a 12-2 run to go up by double figures early and held a 17-10 lead after the first quarter.

The Halifax County High School boys varsity basketball never led in their game on Monday night against the Liberty High School Minutemen until 2.3 seconds remaining in the game. That was thanks to Titus Tucker Jr.’s three-pointer with under five seconds to play, which gave the Comets their first lead and the 58-55 win.

The Halifax County High School boys JV basketball team was down double digits at halftime on Friday night against their rivals from George Washington High School in Danville. Things looked bleak, but the Comets put together an impressive second half to defeat the Eagles 55-51. The Comets went on a 7-0 run early in the first quarter, but the Eagles responded with a 6-2 run to end the first quarter only down 13-10.
