The Hoover police and fire departments are at it again, facing off to see which department can get the most supporters to a blood drive at Hoover City Hall this Wednesday, June 18. The Boots vs. Badges blood drive for the American Red Cross is scheduled to take place from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the community room on the third floor of City Hall at 100 Municipal Lane. Everyone who donates blood will receive a Hoover Boots vs.

After a two-year delay, a project to add a sidewalk on Old Columbiana Road between Green Valley Elementary School and Patton Chapel Road is expected to begin this week. The sidewalk will connect to the existing sidewalk that already exists between Green Valley Elementary School and Deo Dara Drive. The new stretch will cover 1,550 feet (or .3 miles) and is being installed by Avery Landscaping & Associates, Hoover City Engineer Chris Reeves said. The cost is $225,000.

Two couples from Chelsea are seeking permission from the city of Hoover to open an indoor golf simulator business in Greystone. Christian and Sarah Wright and Randy and Stacie Quinn of the Chelsea Park community want to put their franchise business, called The Back Nine, in the former Bedzzz Express Outlet store at 2815 Greystone Commercial Blvd., next to Issis and Sons Flooring.

The Hoover school board on Tuesday night approved a plan to shift two central office administrators into assistant superintendent roles as part of a restructuring plan recommended by Superintendent Kevin Maddox. Chris Robbins, who has spent the past 3½ years as Hoover’s chief learning officer, now will bear the title of assistant superintendent of instruction, while Desiree Smith, who was hired 1½ years ago as chief talent officer, will become assistant superintendent of administration.
