Garfield's Conner Hunt has competed in nine state events - and won all nine. Conner Hunt's three-for-three performance included the closest win of his state career as he edged Christopher Good 18.33-18.72 in the seated 100. Garfield's Conner Hunt set a state record in the 400 with a time of 57.47 seconds. COLUMBUS — Before Conner Hunt even started competing in track and field, he zipped down Garfield's hallways. Former G-Men coach John Bennett remembers the sight well.

COLUMBUS — They did it one last time. Ravenna senior Robert Melzer and Field senior Camden Radeschi stood together on one final podium — this time the finest podium of them all at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Friendly Metro Athletic Conference rivals, Melzer and Radeschi share a new title now — state placers in the Division II shot put. "I'm really excited for him that he was able to get on there with me and we were able to get that picture together," Radeschi said.

COLUMBUS — Riley Grace made a heck of a run. The lowest seed entering the Division III shot put, the Garfield junior nearly made it to finals and perhaps the state podium June 6. Instead, Grace will have to settle for a PR — 37 feet, 5 inches — not to mention a massive improvement from last year. "It feels pretty good," Grace said. "Just, I'm a little disappointed because I know I had more in the tank, like I could have done more.
