SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A new mural will be unveiled in the city of Springfield this weekend. The mural will honor the late Malcolm X, and will be unveiled at the mosque that the civil rights leader himself opened on Oak Street in the year 1958. This mural is part of an ongoing effort from city organizers to honor and celebrate the impact that black leaders have had in their community.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Members of AIC’s football team will be hosting a youth football camp on campus this summer. The camp features a youth football clinic from June 23rd to June 25th and two sessions of the college’s ‘Friday Night Lights’ prospect camp on June 27th and July 25th. Organizers intend to help campers improve their athletic and teamwork skills with help from players and coaches from AIC.

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Local organizations were awarded grants for their impact in the community. The Carlos Vega fund for social justice presented 19 organizations with grants Thursday night at the Wistariahurst Museum. This includes several local groups like the Holyoke Health Center and the Indian Orchard Citizens Council. In their 14th year of funding, the Vega Fund was able to gather more than $30,000 in grants.
