When Liv Shelby posted a TikTok about her mum's death, she didn't expect many people to watch it. Sitting in her car and speaking to camera, it was the first time she'd opened up publicly about what happened to Lisa, who died in 2005. That was the year Liv turned three. It was also the year when, on the day of Liv's birthday party, her dad attacked and killed her mum.

When Adi Misra went to school on his 10th birthday, his pregnant mother told him they would celebrate later. But his mum was sent to prison that day having been wrongfully accused of stealing £75,000 from the Post Office - and spent nearly five months in jail. Adi thought she was in hospital and only discovered the truth eight years later. Now aged 23, he says he "hated" his mum for leaving him so abruptly. Speaking to the BBC, Adi says all the Horizon victims deserve compensation.

Along with yearbook filters, the Roman Empire and Wes Anderson-style mini-movies, girl dinner was one of 2023's most used and debated hashtags on the app. The videos in question show mostly young women filming their dinner, which is made up picky bits of food rather than a balanced meal.
