NEAR EDDYVILLE, Iowa — Two southeast Iowa residents were involved in a boating accident on the Des Moines River over the weekend, and one resident is still missing. The call came in to the Mahaska County Sheriff's Office just before 10:00 a.m. Sunday. The accident happened on the river near 310th Street in rural Eddyville. A press release says the two residents were thrown from the boat they were operating.

On February 25, 2025, multiple law enforcement agencies discovered human remains in the basement of a home at 409 West State Street in Hurdland. Hall was reported missing to the Kirksville Police Department in January 2024. He was reportedly last heard from by a family friend in the spring of 2022. Hall lived in Columbia, Mo., before moving to Kirksville. It is not known when or why Hall moved to Hurdland. Hall's remains were identified by the Boone County Medical Examiner's Office.

KIRKSVILLE and HANNIBAL, Mo. — A lawsuit involving Hannibal Regional Healthcare System and its plans to bring a cancer treatment center to Kirksville came to a head in April when it was decided that no laws were broken. The facility would be built on about 170 acres of land across from Leisure World Lanes on East Illinois Street. It would include a new linear accelerator, used to treat cancer cells with radiation.

BEVIER, Mo. — A northeast Missouri man is in jail after he allegedly raped and sexually abused a girl. A release from the Missouri State Highway Patrol states Cameron Joseph Hunter, 18, of Bevier, Mo., was arrested on Monday. He is charged with first-degree rape, a felony, plus second-degree sexual abuse, and third-degree kidnapping. The arrest came after an investigation by the Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control (DDCC).

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — The Kirksville R-3 School District has taken a significant step toward establishing a regional performing arts hub. On Tuesday morning, school board members and staff from the middle and high schools broke ground on the new Performing Arts Center for Education, which will be located between the two school buildings.
