NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - More than 100 people have been detained U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement across Nashville, according to Tennessee Highway Patrol. As a result of the ongoing operation, Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell signed an executive order aimed at tracking and reporting interactions with federal immigration authorities. “I wanna be clear. We did not request this approach to safety, we do not support it,” O’Connell said.

It prompted a local student organization to write an open letter pleading for school and city leaders to take stand against the federal agency. “We have people who literally are in hiding now, don’t really go out,” an undocumented student told WSMV4.

Among those honored was a man shot in the face during an armed robbery at McDonald’s. When WSMV4 first met Bryan Sapp, he was confined to using a phone to communicate as a result of being injured. “I absolutely believe I was within moments of the end of my life,” Sapp recalled.
