CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The therapeutic boarding school Asheville Academy has come under intense scrutiny after two children died by suicide last month. The treatment center said it has decided to close and had arranged for all students to leave by May 31, a spokesperson said Tuesday. The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services has said the facility’s license has not been suspended but that no girls are currently housed at Asheville Academy, once known as Solstice East.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Another North Carolina residential treatment facility has come under fire after two young girls died by suicide within the same month there, according to authorities. It happened at Asheville Academy, a residential treatment facility in Weaverville with ties to Trails Carolina — both Oregon-based wilderness therapy programs operating in North Carolina. Trails was shuttered after the death of a 12-year-old boy in the camp's care.
