A woman was hit and killed Monday night by a truck carrying a tank from the Army 250th celebration at the National Mall, a law enforcement source told News4. The truck was part of a convoy removing equipment from the military parade, the source said. It was not immediately clear if the convoy was at fault for the crash, and no charges have been filed. The woman has been identified by police as 39-year-old Sierra Nichole Smith.

The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place early Saturday morning in Northwest D.C.No one was injured, police said, and the officer has been put on administrative leave per MPD policy. Nashell Sowells, 43, of Northwest D.C. has been charged with possession of an unregistered firearm and ammunition, simple assault, possession of a controlled substance and destruction of property.

An air quality alert has been issued by DC Homeland Security & Emergency Management for the District Saturday. The alert was originally issued as a Code Orange, which means the air is unhealthy for certain groups. It was upgraded to a Code Red and has since been downgraded back to a Code Orange, according to AirNow, which partners with the Environmental Protection Agency to release data about air quality.

A man was arrested for reckless driving and is accused of intentionally driving into a group of people leaving a protest today, Culpeper police said. A group named Culpeper Democrats on Facebook said it happened at their No Kings rally on James Madison Highway. A new Metro policy to ban violent and sexual offenders from the system goes into effect on Monday. Under the policy, anyone who commits a sex crime or a sex-related crime, violates Metro's Passenger Conduct Rule or a person who commits any assault on a Metro employee, contractor or customer will be unable to enter or use Metro systems and properties for more than 24 hours, according to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority. This includes spaces like trains, buses and parking lots.
