Though spaying and neutering pets are common and often recommended practices for pet owners, the cost of such a procedure can be one of the biggest hurdles to get it done. It is something the local group Almost Home Dog Rescue NC (AHDRNC) aims to rectify with its SNIP-IT program through a voucher system which can cover up to $200 per procedure. AHDRNC came into its own with their first official dog rescue on April 1, 2020, according to Paula Stone who is on the board of directors for the group.

Brevard Music Center will host the musical stylings of guitar virtuoso Tommy Emmanuel Sunday as part of what the musician describes as a representation of his whole life in song. Emmanuel describes his catalog as music that fits across multiple genres. “I fit into country, into blues, into jazz, into rock, into bluegrass, Americana, I fit in to any genre because my music is pretty universal,” he said in advance of Sunday’s 7:30 show in Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium.

Tuesday's meeting of the Transylvania County Board of Elections welcomed new board member Nona Walker in advance of the November municipal elections to take place later this year. Walker was raised in Asheville and graduated from St. Genevieve Academy. She attended and graduated from Harvard University and Suffolk University Law School and worked as a criminal defense attorney in Boston for more than 30 years. Upon her retirement she moved to Brevard with her husband Chuck Kropp in 2015.
