PITTSFIELD TWP., MI — A 22-year-old woman has been charged with three felonies for allegedly striking a man with a car while he crossed an Ann Arbor street. Areli Beraza Vilchis was arraigned Thursday, May 7 on charges of operating while intoxicated causing death, operating with a suspended license causing death and failing to stop at a scene causing death before 14A District Court Magistrate Odetalla Mohammed Odetalla. Beraza Vilchis is facing up to 15 years in prison.

YPSILANTI TWP., MI — A man who died late Wednesday evening was fatally shot by his father, police said. Police were called around 11:47 p.m. May 7 to the 100 block of North Hewitt Road in Ypsilanti Township for a report of a shooting, the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office said in a release. The 74-year-old man allegedly shot his son, 34, during a “domestic dispute,” police said.

ANN ARBOR, MI -- A 25-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to failing to stop her car after she fatally struck a woman walking alongside the road in Superior Township. Courtney Waldick pleaded guilty to failing to report an accident and failing to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in serious impairment or death before Washtenaw County Trial Court Judge Arianne Slay. She took the plea Thursday, May 1, according to court records. She will be sentenced July 18.

YPSILANTI TWP., MI — One man is dead and another is in police custody after a family dispute Wednesday evening. Deputies from the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office were called around midnight May 8 to the 100 block of North Hewitt Road in Ypsilanti Township for a report of a dispute, according to police. Cmdr. Eugene Rush with the sheriff’s office confirmed one man died and another is in custody. Public records indicate the dispute was between family and a gun was used.
