LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - April 30 is all about celebrating kids and the joy they bring. It’s known as “Día de los Niños,” a day loved by many in Mexico and here in Laredo. Laredo College is hosting a fun event at its South Campus on Wednesday, April 30, at 5 p.m. There will be music, snacks, and train rides for kids to enjoy. The holiday started in 1924 when Mexico’s president at the time, Álvaro Obregón, made April 30 a day to honor children. The goal was to make sure kids were happy and treated well.

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Due to a lack of quorum, the Webb County Commissioners Court meeting originally scheduled for Monday was rescheduled to Tuesday. Several key items are on the agenda for discussion:Recreation Master Planning Committee: Commissioners will consider appointing a committee to collaborate with the Economic Development staff in developing a 10-year Recreation Master Plan. The plan will be submitted to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Early voting for the City of Laredo’s proposed half-billion dollar bond continues, but turnout has been low. By the end of Sunday, only 402 people had cast their ballots, with no mail-in ballots received. So far, the total number of ballots cast stands at 4,768. Monday and Tuesday are the last two days for early voting. Election Day will be held on Saturday, May 3rd.

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A heavy police presence in downtown Laredo on Friday night sparked significant attention on social media over the weekend. At around 9:30 PM, Laredo Police were seen impounding over 26 vehicles parked along the 900 block of Iturbide Street. Police discovered that several vehicles, some wrecked and unregistered, were being parked near the bridge, apparently with the intent to cross into Mexico.
