    This month, we are launching three projects we have been working on with talented students from IntersectLA. First, the Farmworker Movement website tells the movement's visual history through the work of photographers Emmon Clarke and John Kouns. Second a Do-It-Yourself bilingual exhibition with 24 panels meant to reach schools, labor halls, and non-profit organizations.

    On March 17, 1966, photographer John Kouns joined the farmworker pilgrimage from Delano to Sacramento, California, alongside 67 marchers who wanted to increase awareness of the grape strike led by the National Farm Workers Association (NFWA) and its fight for recognition as a union. Their goal was to raise awareness about the National Farm Workers Association (NFWA) grape strike, and its struggle for union recognition.

    Our visual archiving work has always been supplemented by oral histories that provide support to our photographic collections. This month, we present you with two powerful examples of the oral history work at the Bradley Center. We introduce the Black Power Oral History Project with three video clips. The oral history transcriptions and video recordings are now available at the University Library’s Special Collections reading room.

We include here images of some members of the Williamston Freedom Movement in North Carolina who traveled to Washington that day to be part of this historic moment.
