Con la firma de los Tratados Torrijos-Carter el 7 de septiembre de 1977, Panamá trazó la ruta hacia su más anhelado sueño como nación: recuperar la soberanía sobre la Zona del Canal y con ello la operatividad de la vía. Tras 25 años del traspaso del Canal a manos panameñas, vuelve a retumbar aquella amenaza que el general Omar Torrijos definió como “una ocupación colonial y una afrenta a la soberanía panameña”.

1. IntroductionCoastal erosion poses a paramount challenge for coastal communities globally. Besides being valuable natural resources and recreational areas, beaches play a crucial role in protecting against extreme events, maintaining biodiversity, and supporting various economic activities such as tourism and fishing. However, coastal erosion continually threatens these areas, resulting in significant land, infrastructure, and habitat losses [1,2].
