It’s weird what goes through your mind when you’re hit by a truck. I rolled up the hood like I was rolling into bed, and I thought to myself, “Oh don’t be so dramatic.” Then I was on the pavement looking up at the blue sky and white clouds. I saw my coffee thermos standing, absurdly upright and alone, in the middle of Lockwood Boulevard, and I thought, I should crawl over there and rescue it. The driver of the truck didn’t let me move. He couldn’t have been nicer.
