Tobacco wars have erupted on Sydney’s streets with one man allegedly having a toe cut off and two others being savagely bashed, during a foiled attempt to steal more than one tonne of illegal tobacco. Ahamad Dudu, 26, and Mohamad Kaddour, 24, were allegedly stopped by NSW Police among a group of eight men fleeing a Condell Park industrial unit late on Saturday, January 4.

The state’s road toll continues to explode, with 18 deaths in the past month alone leading to calls for police to be more visible everywhere from highways to country back roads. A total of 206 people have died on NSW roads since the start of 2024, a jump of 16 on the same time last year.
