Several New York City fitness entrepreneurs are teaming up in a bid to transform the way NYC’s big-box gyms do boutique-style group fitness. Joey and Nada Foley, the co-founders of Pedal House, have created House of Heroes, a boutique fitness collective bringing premium group fitness programming to big-box gyms and franchise operators across NYC. The new brand includes the Foleys’ boutique fitness concepts Pedal House (cycling) Pure House, Power House (mat Pilates) and Punch House (boxing).

David, a fast-growing protein bar brand co-founded by RXBar’s Peter Rahal, has raised $75 million in a Series A round as it looks to expand distribution and accelerate product development. The Series A round was led by Greenoaks with participation from Valor Equity Partners. It comes on the heels of David reeling in $10 million in seed funding last year, bringing the brand’s total amount raised thus far to $85 million.

The American fitness industry’s hopes of making gym memberships count as tax-free medical expenses took a major step forward on Thursday when the House of Representatives passed President Trump’s sweeping new tax bill. Narrowly passed in the house on Thursday by a vote of 215-214, the bill contains language that would allow “qualified sports and fitness expenses,” including gym memberships and certain fitness classes, to count as tax-free medical expenses.
