A group of potential offshore arrivals have been rescued on an Australian beach and reported to Border Force officials. The five men were reportedly discovered on the Northern Territory coastline by a helicopter pilot who then called Border Force to come and collect them. North Australian Helicopters has posted a video to Facebook showing the men on a beach with the pilot.

Peter Dutton is promising that a Coalition Government will commit an additional $90 million to address family and domestic violence across Australia. The Liberal leader says the investment recognises the complexities of family and domestic violence, and that more action is needed to build on the continued implementation of the National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children 2022–2032 (National Plan). The Coalition’s focus will be on prevention, early intervention and crisis response.

The Albanese Government has promised to establish a Critical Minerals Strategic Reserve that could be used as a bargaining chip in trade talks with US President Donald Trump. Minerals held by the reserve will be made available to domestic industry and key international partners, which would likely include the United States, with the mechanism and allocations to be determined by Government, should it be re-elected on May 3.

Labor is standing by its candidate for the central Queensland seat of Flynn, Helen Madell, who in now-deleted tweets from 2020 accused the late Pope Francis of providing “ongoing support for paedos”. Housing Minister Clare O’Neil told Sunrise the tweets were inappropriate but excused the candidate for making them because she has counselled child sex abuse victims.
