SAU and 82 intersection gets high vis stop signs to improve safety

The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDoT) has installed new higher visibility stop signs at the corner of 82 Highway, North Washington and Mulerider Trail. David Archer, a District Engineer, said that after receiving questions about the safety of the intersection ARDoT looked into what they could do to decrease car crashes. Archer said that while they could not get a light installed at the intersection, they tried to make the signs more visible at night.

Burn ban in effect in Columbia County

County Judge Doug Fields has issued a burn ban for Columbia County. All outdoor burning is banned until further notice due to dry and windy conditions that could cause a fire. Columbia County is not predicted to receive any rain until Sunday. Until then, wind speeds will be over 10 miles an hour, according to the National Weather Service. All but 22 counties have burn bans in place. All counties have high to extreme risk levels of wildfires, according to data from the Arkansas Forestry Division.
