A law banning TikTok in the United States is scheduled to take effect on Sunday, unless the Supreme Court rules otherwise. During oral arguments on Jan. 10, TikTok lawyer Noel Francisco told justices, "On Jan. 19, as I understand it, we shut down."The law has garnered outrage among TikTok creators, many of whom have built massive followings — and even careers — on the app.

A nearly year-long legal battle between the Des Moines Art Center and a New York-based artist has ended. The center will pay artist Mary Miss $900,000 to settle the suit and move ahead with the destruction of her installation, "Greenwood Pond: Double Site."“The settlement will end a breach of contract lawsuit filed by Miss on April 4, 2024, and allow the Des Moines Art Center to proceed with previously stated plans to remove the artwork in its entirety,” the art center said in a statement.

A former law office located near downtown Ames buzzed with newcomers on a chilly night back in November. It was the monthly Gathering of Artists held by the Ames Community Arts Council, a free monthly get-together for local artists to meet, share their work and create. This gathering came with a special announcement — and location. It was held in a small building that was set to become Fifth Street Writers, a coworking space launched by Ana McCracken of the Ames Writers Collective.

The Dubuque Museum of Art hasn't always taken up the corner of Locust and 7th, located across from Washington Park in the heart of the city. It was founded as the Dubuque Art Association in 1874 and was based at the Lorimer House, then moved into the building that now houses the Telegraph Herald. Later, it relocated again to the Carnegie-Stout Public Library and even occupied space in a former county jail over the years.

Alicia Rau is never away from her trumpet for too long. She’s fully dedicated to her beloved instrument, which she chose at a young age after falling in love with its confident, commanding sound and “zing." When she rode the full RAGBRAI route in Iowa for the first time in 2011, she brought her friend’s pocket trumpet with her so she wouldn’t fall out of practice. The next year, her dad built her a custom mount so she could display it proudly on the back of her bike.
