NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A family is pleading for justice after a 21-year-old man from Florida was struck by a car while celebrating his birthday in Nashville over the weekend. The driver fled the scene, and police are now searching for the person responsible. The incident happened around 6 p.m. Sunday in the 1500 block of Church Street, near Tribe and Play. According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, Zachary Carach was using a crosswalk when he was hit by a white Mitsubishi Mirage.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Animal shelters across the country are overwhelmed, and Middle Tennessee is no exception. As the cost of pet care climbs and pet-friendly housing becomes harder to find, many families are being forced to surrender beloved pets they can no longer afford to keep. “It’s definitely very expensive,” said Taylor Spreitler with the Nashville Humane Association. She says this heartbreaking trend has become all too common in recent months.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A Middle Tennessee family is grieving after their beloved dog was run over and killed by a trash truck driver. The Cannon County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident, which happened April 13 at a rural property in the county. Tasha Locks and her daughter, Aspen, were going through their usual morning routine when the tragedy happened. Tasha had just let her dogs out when she suddenly heard one of them screeching.

As is customary on May 1, often dubbed “May Day,” a major protest was organized in downtown Nashville about a looming property tax hike. Three organizations organized the protest: Americans for Prosperity-Tennessee (AFP-TN), GOP-Nashville, and the Nashville Tea Party.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Once considered eliminated in the United States, measles continues to make a concerning comeback. Even though there have not been any reported measles cases in Nashville, physicians say declining vaccination rates could lead to millions of infections in the coming decades. A new study led by Stanford University shows the United States could face more than 11 million measles cases over the next 25 years if vaccination rates decline by just 10 percent.
