A man who raped a woman in a "violent, degrading and sustained" attack at a home in Nottingham has been jailed for 10 years. Nottinghamshire Police said Timilehin Olatunji's victim used an app on her mobile phone to record the audio of the assault in the early hours of 29 September 2024. She was subsequently able to escape from the property and reported what had happened to officers, who arrested the 35-year-old a short time later.

Initial funding has been secured to allow the final phase of transformation works to begin at a Leicester museum. On Tuesday, the National Lottery Heritage Fund awarded £411,111 of development funding to Leicester City Council so the authority could work up refurbishment plans for Leicester Museum & Art Gallery. Proposals for the project include two brand new galleries, new teaching spaces and a new environment gallery covering themes such as natural history and climate change.

A British woman living in Los Angeles says she is ready to evacuate her home as out-of-control wildfires continue to rip across parts of the region. Lynsey Hand, originally from Kilburn in Derbyshire, moved to California five years ago and said the flames were about two miles (3.2km) away from her home in Pasadena. The 52-year-old said she hoped her home would avoid the fire but some of her friends had lost their houses and "everything in them".

A choir leader from Derbyshire has performed her last concert after more than a quarter of a century conducting. Jill Marriott started the Long Eaton United Reformed Church choir in 1998 and has since led 172 singers and raised thousands of pounds for charity through dozens of concerts. She said nobody wanted to take on her role as leader so the group decided to end, and performed the final concert on 1 December.

A driver has suffered serious head injuries after a boulder smashed through his windscreen and hit him after it was dropped from a bridge, police said. The rock was dropped from the crossing over the A617, near Hemsley Road, Rainworth, at about 22:00 GMT on Friday, Nottinghamshire Police said. The 26 year-old was driving a silver Transit van when it went through the windscreen. “We are taking this mindless and abhorrent act extremely seriously," Supt Heather Maelor said.
