A new exhibition of photographs of Old Galway, curated by historian and gallery owner Tom Kenny, will open in Galway City this Friday, May 9, and will run for four weeks. The Streets of Galway, at the Kenny Gallery in Liosbán, is in memory of the late Ronnie O’Gorman. Featuring over 40 photographs capturing Galway City and its people in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the images feature streets, markets, shops, workers and everyday life.

Featherweight the debut poetry collection from Noelle Lynskey, was launched in her hometown of Strokestown, County Roscommon, last weekend. Published by Arlen House and capturing a lifetime of her writing, it explores themes of love, family, loss, parenting, grief, music and nature. Noelle brings the reader on journeys from Clare to Mayo, from Sligo to Cork, and to Portumna, where she lives and works as a community pharmacist.

Award-winning Canadian folk trio Genticorum will play the Station House Theatre in Clifden next Tuesday, May 13, as part of an Irish tour co-ordinated by Music Network. Described as ‘one of the most sought-after exponents of Québecois musical culture’ by BBC Radio 2, the three play melodic combinations of fiddle, flute and accordion, supported by energetic foot percussion and powerful guitar playing.

Director Lianne O’Shea has been awarded Druid Theatre’s 2025 Marie Mullen Bursary, an annual award for female theatre artists working in Ireland in design, directing and dramaturgy. Named in honour of actor and Druid co-founder, Marie Mullen, and in its seventh year, the bursary supports the professional development of women in the business. Lianne was a Resident Director at the Abbey Theatre last year when she assisted Lynne Parker on her production of Children of the Sun on the main stage.

It’s “nothing short of shocking” that in the almost 50 years since Galway International Arts Festival was founded, the authorities in Galway City have not got their act together to provide proper performance spaces and galleries, according to the Artistic Director of Galway International Arts Festival, Paul Fahy. Speaking in advance of the programme launch of this year’s festival, he said authorities “need to get themselves in hand” and address the city’s serious lack of arts infrastructure.
