ABSTRACTThis study examines the impact of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) on professional football using data from 61,395 matches across 24 leagues in 15 countries between 2012 and 2022. Employing a staggered Difference-in-Differences approach, we assess how VAR influences the number of goals scored, goal timing, and disciplinary actions. Our comprehensive match-level analysis captures nuanced effects that aggregated data might overlook.
