Long lines at security, flight delays, crowded gates — summer is the busiest time of year at Pittsburgh International Airport. Last June, 970,000 passengers flew through Pittsburgh International Airport, according to the Allegheny County Airport Authority. By comparison, the slowest month is January when Pittsburgh had only 624,000 passengers. “We're expecting a very busy summer travel season, just like last summer,” said Bob Kerlik, director of public affairs at Allegheny County Airport Authority.

A more than 100-year-old Craftsman in Clairton is in the middle of its Cinderella story. Years in the making, the warm glow of brighter streetlights are finally flickering on around Pittsburgh. At a press conference in the Manchester neighborhood Tuesday evening, Mayor Ed Gainey instructed crews to turn on the new LED streetlights — a vivid contrast to the old high-pressure sodium lights visible down the street. It’s the start of the city’s $15 million replacement of all 35,000-plus streetlights around town over the next two years.

Both sides of the Armstrong Tunnel will be open and flowing with traffic beginning Thursday morning. After more than two years and a $13 million rehabilitation, cars and trucks won’t have to detour into Downtown to get from the South Side into Uptown and beyond. The Armstrong Tunnel is now fixed, cleaned up and down to one lane in either direction with wider shoulders.
