Data collection Data were collected on dogs undergoing surgical (via complete or partial suture ligation) or medical management for an EHPSS at a single institution between 2009 and 2019 via medical record review. Dogs were excluded from analysis if they were diagnosed with an intrahepatic shunt, had a previous ligation surgery at another facility, had more than one surgery performed for treatment of EHPSS, or did not have diagnostic imaging performed to confirm an EHPSS.
